Harsh Ways Fest headliner, harsh noise legend, The Rita is the guest for next two episodes. In this first part we discuss the collaboration with The Gloria, early stages of The Rita, live shows, aspects of wall noise, working with Keith Brewer and modern noise culture. At the turn of July and August, Harsh Ways Fest was once again held in Turku. It is already the 4th time the fest is held, and once again the lineup was impressive. Second part of Dead Door Unit interview! This time focus shifts more on talk about noise culture as a whole. Talks revolve around writing noise and noise reviews, deep listening and experiencing noise music in that regard. Interesting topic that arises is, what defines a classic, what are aspects of a timeless release? What are the motivations or intentions of pure noise? Also a conversation about the "language of noise", what is t even is? Who defined what or who are the most influential ones? How does surroundings of an individual influence their noise? Dead Door Unit interview, first part. DDU was touring in Europe in April, so of course we set up an interview with him. Mikko A. and Jazzhand sat down with the man and had an interesting deep discussion about things of noise. First part of the interview revolves around how Europe tour came together, early influences of DDU, playing live in US and also many aspects and variations of playing live noise.
Noisecast went to Turku to check out Dead Door Unit while he was on European tour. On the same bill was also Tryptich, Invagination, Jazzhand and Rautakymi, so needless to stay the night was stacked. Here you hear a collective of gentlemen discussing the evening in the night of Turku. Discussion also wanders off to talk about rehearsing live noise to pondering what wool sock noise actually is?
Episode 28 takes us back to February in Lahti, where Viimaa & Villasukkia event took place once again. It's been a several year tradition, and once again this year line up did not disappoint. Third part of the Grunt interview. On this episode we continue where we left off last time, and continue our talks from Spiritual Eugenics forward. Discussion follows same flows as previously, bigger pictures of albums are painted, and interesting back stories come up. From Estonian memorials to Finnish medical world. In the end of the episode there is an excellent unreleased Grunt track "Cold Cleans Up". A live version can be heard on Vieraat Aivot CD but this studio version was done for a compilation that never came out. Noisecast is proud to present this for the first time.
Grunt interview continues, this time we step into deep into 2000's and continue where we left off. Episode also includes an unreleased version of "Fucked By Steel" from World Draped in a Camoflauge album. This version is an early mix, and has differences in vocals, production and mixing. Video is also worth checking, lots of original artworks and photographs.
NOISECAST #25 Noisecast is shifting more into english language material, it felt like there's a demand for it. So here we are, there was has been requests to translate several of the old episodes, but it's a lot of work. Much better way is just do new interesting material. And what a better way to kick off this new era than a three part Grunt interview. This interview focuses in the themes and visuals of Grunts wide release catalogue. In the first episode we start from the 90's where it all began. We go through the very roots of Grunt through the 90's. Living near Russia border, Tshernobyl, The Balk Wars and so forth.
